Virtual Parks

Virtual Parks is simply one of the most amazing uses of the web I have seen in a long time. It is chock full of extremely detailed and well shot panoramas of North American national parks. This is probably about as close as many people will ever get to seeing many of these places; last time I talked to a Yosemite ranger, they told me that out of the 30+ million visitors the park gets per year, only about 150,000 backcountry passes are requested. So for the rest (or more importantly for those who, for physical reasons, can’t see the backcountry) at least such a proxy exists. Now we just need a virtual breeze and a soundtrack…
