Google Reader

This one caught me by surprise. Didn’t realize Google had created a web-based RSS aggregator, but why should I be surprised, they’ve gone ahead and created a web based everything else.

I spent a few minutes with it and I have to say, it’s pretty slick and about as luddite-friendly a newsreader as I’ve encountered. What is really slick is that you can pass it a URL and it will look for any feed associated with that URL and find it pretty much every time. No more tracking down the link behind that obscure RSS badge — just whack your friend’s blog URL in, and presto, you’ve got entries. Neat stuff, which I might actually use.
